Why Eva-Last
Environmental Facts
The Eva-tech Range of Wood-Plastic Composite material has been recognized on a global level for its tremendous environmentally-friendly advantages.
In the last year Eva-Last Distributors, a leading eco-decking supplier, has redefined itself as a local manufacturer of environmentally-friendly composite material. Eva-Last has been promoting green building and preservation of natural resources since it began importing composite material in 2007. The decision to produce its own composite line right in South Africa, significantly lowers the overall GHG emissions associated with providing a high quality and eco-conscious end product to consumers.
Eva-Last constantly finds opportunities to lessen the overall carbon footprint of its business. Not only are the raw materials used to make Eva-tech recycled; sawdust and recycled cold drink bottles, but Eva-Last goes another step further. Eva-Last encourages that even the sawmills, from which it collects the left over sawdust, partner with people providing sustainable wood. Eva-tech is ‘green’ in the sense that it is created from recycled products, which would otherwise be burned or end up in landfills and release harmful chemicals as they slowly break down. It is also green in the sense that Eva-tech minimises the need for the future waste of natural resources. By offering eco-decking and outdoor material options, consumers need no longer look to cutting down trees in order to create beautiful decks and accessories. Therefore, Eva-tech preserves natural resources while simultaneously reusing raw materials, which would otherwise become waste.
Opportunities to positively affect climate change often come by learning from others. In that spirit Eva-Last has looked outside of itself for ways to improve manufacturing efficiency, reduce GHG emissions and create a better, more eco-friendly composite product line. Eva-Last representatives have been in direct contact with, and held discussions on these topics with composite manufacturers and distributors internationally. Eva-Last has sent representatives to the United States, Europe and Asia in order to study efficiency models that are used elsewhere. Eva-Last has also had outside consultation from Canadian and American composite leaders, who have provided climate change solutions which Eva-Last has worked to implement locally.
Eva-Last leads the entire African composite market in amount of production and green initiatives. It is the continent’s only composite decking manufacturer. Eva-Last believes that a green product is only as green as each of its components. After comparing various composite manufacturing and distribution methods worldwide, Eva-Last initiated transport procedures to lessen the amount of domestic transport by increasing the size of each truckload delivered. The company established holding depots throughout South Africa and aims to send out only full truckloads of material over long distances, rather than separately transporting individual orders. To date, Eva-Last is among the only composite manufacturing companies worldwide to utilise the energy saving colour dye methods which originated in America. Eva-Last uses shorter, more compact dye strands in its manufacturing which require significantly less electricity to incorporate into the end Eva-tech product than traditional longer strands of colour dye used elsewhere.
Eva-Last's business strategy involves green initiatives for consumers and encouraging green habits in its own employees. At present Eva-Last offers petrol reimbursement incentives for all employees who carpool to work. Strides are made and improved upon to promote client behaviours towards preserving the environment. The Eva-Last website and marketing materials give consumers ideas on how to recycle and creatively reuse otherwise wasted goods. Nearly all marketing is done on a paperless basis as part of Eva-Last’s agenda to operate with as few natural resources as possible.
Eva-Last has spent the entirety of its existence dedicated to consistent improvement in the quality of composite created, and lowering GHG emissions. Eva-Last looks to others in and out of its direct industry for ideas, and goes beyond the status quo of green manufacturing and distribution. Four years after its creation, Eva-Last is already establishing new precedents for minimising the carbon footprint associated with producing a world-class outdoor material. For Eva-Last, business strategy and eco-consciousness go hand in hand.
