How GREEN are you?

Definition: GREEN

Adjective: Of the colour between blue and yellow in the spectrum, coloured like grass or emeralds.
Verb: Make or become green, in particular.

While most people claim to be taking the route of ‘Going Green’, most don’t understand this generic term describing an action that benefits the environment. In other words, how environmentally friendly are you?

going_green_-_people_around_the_world

The term is thrown around quite loosely with everyone jumping on the bandwagon, but are you really aware of all the things that you can do to be more environmently friendly? Here are a few tips that we believe are a good place to start:

  • Winter is rapidly approaching, which means we all pull out the heaters and electric blankets! There are several energy efficient heated blankets on the market, as well as power saving wall heaters that will help you cut down on your electricity usage.
  • Instead of jumping into your car to pop out to the shop, why not consider a nice stroll if the place is close enough. It will give you a chance to get in some fresh air and will reduce your carbon emissions, not to mention the fact that it will you will also be saving on a bit on petrol.
  • Energy saving bulbs are probably one of the easiest changes to make towards being environmentally friendly. You can purchase them at most convenient stores.
  • Think before you print! We all receive a ton of emails a day, but before you hit print, think about whether or not you need a printed copy or if the electronic copy is sufficient.
  • Most shopping centers offer a recycling point for paper, plastic, tins, and even old ink cartridges. It is a free service and all you do is drop of the items in the designated bins – quick and easy, and you will be surprised at how good you feel afterwards!

We all need to remember that every little bit counts, no matter how small the change or contribution. We all play a part in conserving the environment, and there is no better time to start making a change than right now! So ask yourself- are you the adjective or the verb?

Eva-Last Year-End Function

The year 2012 was a busy but fruitful year for Eva-Last Distributors and everyone was ready to let their hair down with a bit of fun and food at the company year-end function.

The day started off bright and early with everyone donning their racing suits for an endurance race at the Randburg Raceway Indoor Karting track. Everyone was split into teams of 6 and after a quick breakfast the fun began! After nearly 4 hours of racing, a few bumps and bruises and a significant amount of laughs, the grey team came out victorious! Well-done guys, Lewis Hamilton had better watch out!

After a bite to eat, a few lap time comparisons and a sympathetic hug for Sandy our receptionist who had to be ‘rescued’ after one lap, everyone freshened up and got ready for dinner at the lovely Leeuwkop Golf Club.

The Benefit of Twitter in Business

We trust you enjoyed part 1 of our social media blog post that dove into the Facebook platform and how it can be integrated into your corporate marketing environment.

In this 2nd and final part of our social media blog, we look at Twitter.

twitter_logo

Twitter is similar concept to Facebook that allows people to leave a ‘status’ of no more than 160 characters. There is also the option to upload photo’s, online links and website addresses.  All you need to do is set up a profile and select your username. You will be given the option of adding a profile image/ picture, a short description of yourself, your website address as well as your location. Once your profile is setup, fellow Twitter users can choose ‘follow’ you and you can in turn ‘follow’ them or any other users registered on the site.  Put simply, when someone chooses to ‘follow’ you, and vice versa, they have selected to subscribe to the information you put out there.  This is direct marketing at its best.

The Benefits of Facebook in Business

With the communication revolution known as social media, it has now become socially acceptable to ‘follow’ and ‘poke’ people. In fact, it’s encouraged!

While some of the lingo requires some practice and understanding, this modern form of communication and interaction between people is slowly but surely taking over. Despite what some people may believe, these platforms are not only restricted to teenagers wanting to chat to their friends about their weekend plans. When utilised correctly, it can be a great marketing tool in the corporate world. It allows organisations to get their name out there and at the same time it offers you an alternative method to track and monitor what people are saying about your brand.

New Eva-tech pergola system steals the show

For years the industry has been looking for an alternative to timber pergolas. Just like with timber decking, a natural wooden pergola needs to be maintained or it will rot and be destroyed over time. Annually sanding and sealing your timber pergola will dramatically increase its life span. The problem with this is that a pergola generally stands more than two meters high making it even more difficult to maintain than that of an actual timber deck.

Thus the requirement for a low maintenance pergola system is created. This new system is a breakthrough in composite technology, utilizing the beauty and maintenance free benefits of wood plastic composite on the outside along with the strength and resilience of structural steel on the inside.  The steel is used as reinforcement inside the new Eva-tech pergola system allowing for a span that has never been seen before in wood plastic composite products.
