A Totally Biased Account of Why Composite is Better than Timber

Eva-tech_at_restaurant

Is composite better than timber?  Yes.  Does Eva-Last understand why composite is better?  Yes.  Can we give you a completely neutral, unbiased account of why composite is better?  Of course not!  We’re in the composite industry.  We’re invested professionally, personally and emotionally in all that composite is and stands for.  If this sounds too extreme then you’ve obviously never seen our Eva-tech decking contractors cry at the sight of a beautiful new Eva-tech deck.  It’s touching (and maybe a little pathetic).  We’re not objective observers of the decking industry; we’re active participants pushing for a superior decking material and brand.  So, no, we’re not unbiased.

But we are well-informed.

Once upon a time we weren’t composite decking professionals.  We were just regular decking consumers like you.  We weren’t born into a composite conglomerate.  In fact we believed, like our parents and their parents before them, that timber was the obvious choice for decking.  Yet when we did finally discover composite, there was something about it that drew us in, like moths to a flame, and inspired us to dedicate our time and energy to spreading the word on the benefits of composite.  We chose this industry for a reason, and it’s a reason we wholeheartedly believe in still today: composite is better than timber.  Here’s why.

Composite is Environmentally Friendly

Timber requires cutting down trees.  Composite requires recycling materials.  Hmm...which do you think is better for the environment?  Wood plastic composite (WPC), like Eva-tech, is made from sawdust and recycled plastics.  Not only are you NOT cutting down trees with composite, you’re actually keeping plastic bottles and sawdust out of landfills.  Whether you’re a tree hugger or just an average Joe, that's a difference you can appreciate.

Composite is Low Maintenance

Timber requires sealants, stains and treatments that are bad for the environment and bad on your back.  Composite requires an occasional sweeping.  Maybe even a hose down after a big party.  This means you can choose to spend your time and money maintaining your timber deck, or you can choose to install composite decking and take a nap in the sun.  Is this really a hard choice?

Composite is Weather Resistant

You love the heat of the summer and the cold of the winter.  But your timber deck doesn’t.  Your wooden deck will look great the day it’s laid, but how’s it holding up after a year of being pounded by the weather?  Composite is specifically designed to withstand harsh weather conditions.  Eva-tech composite even adds in extra UV protection to accommodate the African sun.  Again the choice is yours, a weathered timber deck or a reliable composite deck.  That’s a tough one.

Composite is a Long Term Investment

With no staining, sealing or treating a composite deck can last 40 years.  That means 40 years of backyard braais and lazy afternoons.  Sure, a timber deck can also last for a while, but 40 years?   Even if it could that means 40 years of sanding every summer and watching out for splinters.  We’d rather be a-chilling on the composite.  As an extra bonus Eva-tech composite comes with one of the most comprehensive warranties in the industry.  Not bad.

Composite Supports Your Lifestyle

Eva-tech composite is water resistant, splinter-free and guaranteed against warping, rotting, cracking or significant fading.  Timber is not.  Need we say more?

I like the title of this one. It's true that as a composite representative you can't be truly objective but you do make a compelling argument.
